Deepest Valley is a hand-drawn fantasy strategy game for hanging with 2-5 friends. It’s a multiplayer game you can host via lobby key (local or online), or you can join a random game. It’s the perfect thing to bullshit over while hanging out on a call or voice chat.

Five realms battle for control of a valley sunk so deep into war it might swallow them whole:

I first released Deepest Valley in 2020 as a physical wargame in zine format. This was after 5 years of playtesting and months spent hand-drawing and digitally colouring every hex on the map. The zine had all these tiny dice, and a cool fold-out map, and after so much testing the rules played really well.

About 10 weeks ago I dusted Deepest Valley off and instantly became obsessed with making a videogame version. I started to learn the godot game engine, and gdscript, and was totally consumed. I’ve worked on it every minute since (what can I say I’m both unemployed and autistic).

I can honestly say I am just deleriously proud of how it turned out, how smooth it plays, and how good the art looks in 4K while keeping the same zine vibe. Not to mention the epic soundtrack a super close friend composed for it:

I’ve been having the most raucous fun on calls testing the game with my buddies back home. It’s been such a good way to schedule time to hang out with old friends and add a little competition and conniving to keep it lively. It feels like that kind of go-to game you can just fire up when someone’s online.
